|Description of Program||The South Carolina State Office of Veterans' Affairs oversees local Veterans' Affairs Officers (VAOs) in each of the state's 46 counties. The County VAO will assist US Armed Forces veterans and their dependents with accessing federal benefits and assistance programs that are in place to support military veterans and their families ,including: compensation and pension, hospital and nursing home care, burial, insurance, education and home loans.
In addition to federal benefits, the VAO also assists in obtaining state benefits, which include nursing home care, Veterans automobile tags, tax exemptions and dependent education.

|Additional Requirements||Basic documentation needed to file claims: proof of discharge other than dishonorable (DD214), social security numbers, marital information, and possibly family financial information.|
|Eligibility||Honorably discharged, separating or retired military veterans and their dependents are eligible for assistance.|
