Description of ProgramThe South Carolina State Division of Veterans´┐Ż Affairs assists veterans and their dependents with filing applications to determine their basic eligibility and conditions of benefit entitlements for pension, medical, and other benefits administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Assistance can include research, preparation, development, presentation and prosecution of claims submitted to the VA Regional Office in Columbia or the Board of Veterans Appeals in Washington, D.C. A County Veterans Affairs Officer (CVAO) in stationed in each county to serve that county's veterans. The state office in Columbia works with the county offices and is part of the SC Governor's Office.
Intake ProcedureContact the Veterans Affairs Officer in your home county. Basic documentation needed to file claims: proof of discharge other than dishonorable (DD214), social security numbers, marital information and possibly family financial information.
Client Information
EligibilityHonorably discharged, separating or retired military veterans and their dependents are eligible for assistance.
