    Adult Protection Services (Elder Abuse)The Ombudsman's office receives, investigates, and works to resolve reports of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and quality of care issues concerning adults in long term care facilities, such as nursing homes, residential care/assisted living facilities, and psychiatric hospitals. The Ombudsman program serves to advocate for residents, to increase public awareness and prevent the occurrence of elder abuse in both the community and long term care settings. Abuse, neglect, or exploitation complaints occurring in facilities operated or contracted for operation by the SC Dept. of Mental Health or the SC Dept. of Disabilities and Special Needs must be reported to the SC Law Enforcement Division (SLED) at 866-200-6066. The State Long Term Care Ombudsman DOES NOT address abuse/neglect issues for persons living in their own homes or in other types of care facilities.
